It shouldn’t be a disadvantage to be colour blind in education
Posted on 3rd March 2020
On average one child in every classroom is colour blind and the majority of children with CVD remain undiagnosed and unassisted and often are left to struggle in the classroom as there is little or no advice or support for schools, teachers or parents. Colour blindness can affect exam grades, mental health and career choice. So why is it that the issues and problems faced by children with CVD are rarely considered in education and the majority of pupils with CVD remain undiagnosed and unassisted in classrooms? As well as the need for mandatory testing being introduced and more awareness in schools, designers and manufacturers of products (including maps), suppliers into schools and those making the purchases need to be aware and take responsibility.
